The S S Georgette Memorial commemorates the wreck of the ship, the lives lost, and acknowledgement by the Royal Humane Society for those involved in the rescue of survivors.
On December 1st 1870 when the ship was off Calcardup Bay it sprung a leak and flooded the engines,due to the pumps not working. Orders were given to take to the lifeboats , but one broke in two and 12 lives were lost. The ship drifted ashore and began to break up.
Grace Bussell and an aboriginal stockman, Sam Isaacs, rode their horses into the sea and rescued survivors, for which Grace was to receive a silver medal whilst Sam a Bronze from the Royal Humane Society of England
