Long Description:
Lovejoy returns from Spain and sets about getting Eric and Tinker back into the firm. Eric is a security guard and Tinker is about to enter a monastery.

Lady Jane introduces Lovejoy to Victoria Cavero, a widow of a South American politician who was investigating a cratel of corrupt bankers led by Alfredo Pereira. Lovejoy agrees to help Victoria sell a valuable Inca ring. As Lovejoy doesn’t have a safe, Eric borrows a safe from the security firm he works for. The safe uses iris recognition and will open for Eric.

Lovejoy tries to interest Pereira in the ring at a polo match in Windsor. They agree to meet at Lovejoy’s house next day. However, before that happens Lady Jane is kidnapped and the ring demanded as ransom. Victoria had been the intended victim, but Lady Jane was in the wrong place at the wrong time.

Lovejoy agrees to the ransom, but has a problem. The safe won’t open for Eric. Lovejoy contacts a safe cracking friend. The safe cracker has retired and suggests Lovejoy contact his son at Eton. Eric fetches the son from Eton, but the safe refuses to open. Eventually they twig that Eric is wearing contact lenses. He removes them and the safe is opened.

The ransom is paid and Lady Jane freed. Lovejoy is convinced Pereira was the perpetrater and goes ahead with his meeting. Victoria convinces Pereira that she has contacts in high places and will have Pereira blackballed by the polo establishment unless he pays up. Reluctantly he pays up.
