Though Plains isn't a tiny town, we nonetheless thought this to be a pretty impressive 911 Memorial for a small town. It was dedicated on September 11, 2011, the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 disaster, in memory of the firefighters who lost their lives during the 911 terrorist attacks. The memorial was created and dedicated by the Plains Volunteer Fire Department.
The memorial consists of a granite plaque affixed to a large boulder, atop which stands a life sized bronze of a uniformed firefighter. Behind them is a flagpole and flag, while in front are a pair of benches facing the memorial. The whole is set on a concrete pad with planters surrounding the boulder.
The plaque at the memorial reads as follows:
This Stone Stands In Memory Of Firefighters
Who Made The Ultimate Sacrifice During The
Terrorist Attacks Of September 11, 2001
