Le village de Bignay ( du latin "bi", deux et du celte "gnay", passage) se trouve au croisement de deux anciennes voies romaines qui reliaient d'un côté Saintes ( Mediolanum Santonum) à Angers (Juliomagus) et de l'autre Limoges (Augustoritum) à la côte Atlantique (Arcantiacum). Cette borne romaine est le vestige du croisement.
The village of Bignay (from the Latin "bi" Two and Celtic "Gnay" pass) is located at the intersection of two ancient Roman roads that connected one side Saintes (Mediolanum Santonum) in Angers (Juliomagus) and the another Limoges (Augustoritum) to the Atlantic coast (Arcantiacum). This Roman terminal is the remnant of the crossing.
