Long Description:

HER MAJESTY THE QUEEN
ACCOMPANIED BY
HRH THE DUKE OF EDINBURGH
OPENED THE TRANSFORMED
ROYAL SHAKESPEARE THEATRE
ON 4TH MARCH 2011

After closing in 2006 The Royal Shakespeare Company transformed their main theatre into a modern day Shakespeare theatre. The new renovations included a thrust stage able to seat over 1,030 audience members, expanded and renovated public areas including a new rooftop café and restaurant, and improved backstage conditions for the actors and crew.

The new theatre is also more accessible to people with disabilities, and offers a more comfortable theatre experience.

Re-opened in 2011 with an official ceremony by Her Majesty The Queen, with a carved stone plaque at the base of the new tower.

HM The Queen (Elizabeth II) is Head of State of the UK and 15 other Commonwealth realms.
The elder daughter of King George VI and Queen Elizabeth, she was born 21 April 1926, and became Queen on 6th February 1952 at the age of 25. Her coronation was the first to be televised.

In her sixty years on the throne she has seen 12 UK prime ministers.

She is the world's oldest reigning monarch as well as Britain's longest-lived and second longest-reigning head of state. (Queen Victoria being the longest reign. If Elizabeth is still reigning at 10 September 2015, she will surpass her great-great-grandmother Victoria.)

She is patron of over 600 charities and celebrated her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.
