Long Description:
The cathedral St Stephan in Breisach was built as a late Romanesque church, probably from around 1185 to 1230.
After 1330 the building was extended to the west, but remained unfinished for over a century. This is the period when the west porch was created. The construction was completed in the 15th century in late Gothic style.
The pointed arch above the bronze door contains a sandstone tympanum. It depicts scenes of the life of St Stephan, the patron saint of the cathedral.
