Long Description:
As a reward Caesar ordered the town's fortification and refounded it as a Julian colony, possibly Colonia Iulia Firma Astigitana. Under the reign of Octavian, the later emperor Augustus, the colony was strengthened according to Caesar's construction plans, and its name was finalized as Colonia Iulia Augusta Firma Astigitana.

The museum houses an important collection of Roman art, with splendid mosaics, and sculptures such as the 'Wounded Amazon'.

The upper level features a hall devoted to six fantastically preserved Roman mosaics, some unearthed beneath Écija's central square, with one tableau depicting the 'birth' of wine.
Most Relevant Historical Period: Roman Republic 509 B.C. - 27 B.C.
