The museum for the city history of Freiburg is located in Wentzingerhaus at Münsterplatz near the cathedral.

The museum is an outpost of the nearby Augustiner Museum and concentrates on the history of the city of Freiburg.

The museum has several focal points:

Trade and craft in Freiburg, the abbeys and the University.
The Dukes of Zähringen, the founders of the city in the 12th century.
The construction of the cathedral.
The Thirty Years War in Freiburg.
City models of the 16th and 17th century.

The museum opened in 1994. The building was created in 1761 by the artist Johann Christian Wentzinger (1710–1797) as an apartment and artist's studio for himself.
