Long Description:
Evacustes A Phipson was born Edward Arthur Phipson in 1854 in King’s Norton. He changed his first name to Evacustes, a greek word meaning easy listener. He emigrated to Australia, but returned in 1889 to earn his living as a painter. He produced many paintings of local scenes across Britain. He died in Rye in 1931.

The painting is a watercolour and is in the collection of Hitchin Museum and Art Gallery. The photograph was taken slightly obliquely to get a good field of view from across the narrow street.
