In addition to this WWI Medical Staff Memorial, the WPA was tasked with rehabilitation of many buildings, sewer, water, electrical, roads and built seven garages, gardeners shed and new incinerator.

This WWI memorial is dedicated to the medical staff who helped hundreds of thousands during WWI. The major military medical concern during and after WWI was tuberculosis. Fitzsimons was developed to take care of tubercular patients as Colorado's dry climate greatly aided recovery from the disease. In addition, the Jewish Consumptive (as tuberculosis was called) Relief Society (which become National Jewish Respiratory Hospital) was making great medical advances in the care and treatment of tuberculosis.

The plaque features a caduceus with the text emblazoned upon that reads:
