EN: The Roman Catholic Church of St. Franziskus in Riehen was built in 1950. The architect was Fritz Metzger (1898-1973), one of the major Swiss church architects of the time.
The church has a wide expanded entrance and tapers down to the oval choir. The glass windows are unstained. The high square bell tower is freestanding.
The interiors was completed only in the 1980s after a competition by Pierre Casé.
DE: Die römisch-katholische Kirche St. Franziskus in Riehen wurde 1950 erbaut. Architekt war Fritz Metzger (1898-1973), einer der wichtigsten Schweizer Kirchenarchitekten dieser Zeit.
Die Kirche hat einen breit ausladenden Eingangsbereich und verjüngt sich konisch zum ovalen Chorraum. Die Kirchenfenster sind ungefärbt. Der hohe quadratische Glockenturm steht frei.
Die Innenaustattung wurde erst in den 1980er Jahren nach einem Wettbewerb von Pierre Casé vollendet.
