Long Description:
The building is heritage listed with the NSW Government's Environment & Heritage Office which describes it as:

This simple building is prominent on Hoddle Street and is possibly one of the oldest buildings in Burrawang. It is rare in that it has continued to be used as a butcher shop. It is highly important to Burrawang village in terms of being a continued use and the small scale of the building and simple design being indicative of the pioneering past.

It has been run by a series of people including Miles Barrett, Gilberts, Rudges, Charles Rowland, Harry Wilson and finally, Jim Wilson.

Although the Heritage website indicates it was closed in 1970 it is open & run by J & V Mauger.

I found a blog (South Acre Farms) entered 28 March 2012 (visit link) in which the butchery is mentioned viz "We go into Burrawang quite often as our butcher John Mauger sells the most delicious meats and we have yet to be disappointed. The Mauger's are also very popular caterers in the area..."

The Mauger's own a farm & raise their own stock. They comment on their website "Our Beef and Lamb are naturally grass fed. There is no adding of hormones or chemicals. Unlike many butcher shops, we know our stock as we grow and fatten them in a stress free environment".

A butchery & caterer that occupies a shop steeped in the history of this village, population 177.
