Long Description:
The Arboretum came into being when some seeds that had been collected on a holiday trip in 2004 to Far North Queensland were planted to see if they would germinate out of their normal environment. Surprisingly several different trees began to grow & thrive, even surviving the cold winters.

Shoalhaven City Council was approached to gain official permission to create an Arboretum & after much investigation the Council agreed to support the project. The Arboretum became a Parkcare project in 2009 & was officially opened in 2011.

The Curtis Park Arboretum was officially opened by His Worship the Mayor, Clr Paul Green Friday 29th April 2011. Robert Stewart President Curtis Reserve Parkcare Group represented the volunteers who made the arboretum possible.

The brass plaque recording the official opening is affixed to a sandstone rock, bears the crest of the city & is worded:

Curtis Park Arboretum officially opened by His Worship the Mayor, Clr Paul Green Friday 29th April, 2011. Robert Stewart President Curtis Reserve Parkcare Group.

Paul Green was elected Mayor of the City of Shoalhaven on 13 September 2008. He contested election to the Australian Senate in 2007 & 2010 but was unsuccessful. In 2011 he contested election to the NSW Legislative Council & assumed office on 26 March 2011. He remained as mayor of the City of Shoalhaven until the last local government elections in September 2012 when he stood down.
