Long Description:
In 1886, land in the village of Tonawanda was sold to the New York Central Railroad, who built a station on the site. A red brick structure, its gables are handcarved in the "steamboat gothic" style. On each of the elaborate peaks is perched a whimsical carving of a man playing a flute while squirrels dance at his feet.

The last train passed Tonawanda's station in 1922. Since 1965 the station has been the home of the Historical Society of the Tonawandas, housing exhibits demonstrating the unique history of the Cities of Tonawanda and North Tonawanda, New York.

Also on the trianglar piece of land is the 1925 monument "IN MEMORY OF SOLDIERS, SAILORS & MARINES OF THE CIVIL WAR OF 1861 TO 1865" and a commemorative garden area with stone markers dedicated to World War I veterans.
