Long Description:
The factory started out as the Lily-Tulip factory in 1952. It was the first of a number of large factories - Zenith, Royal-McBee, Kraft, Dayco, Litton, etc. - almost all now long gone, which graced Springfield over the net 20-30 years. Over time, Lily gave way to Sweetheart, which was bought out by Solo. The plant closed in the spring of 2011 and is now for sale.

The iconic cup entryway was a Springfield landmark ever since the plant's opening. Only the name at the top changed as time passed.?

If there's any question about the iconic status of the factory and its product, one has only to turn to the world of entertainment. Toby Keith's humorous anthem, "Red Solo Cup," was featured on a "Glee." The song's music video won the 2012 CMA Country Music Video of the Year award. (Maybe if the factory's cup had been painted red, it would still be open?)

Since Solo was the factory's last operator, it is that company's Wiki page which is listed below. Sweetheart also has a Wiki page, as does the song. The former is (visit link) ; the latter is (visit link) .
