Long Description:

The CSRS database and Cosine lists the original IBC Marker 52 as having been destroyed in 1882 by CHS (Canadian Hydrographic Survey?). It was on the river bank at the end of Devine Street with the coordinates listed as N42° 57' 47": W82° 24' 47 (N 42 57.783, W 82 24.783).

According to Cosine there is an IBC marker, IBC19990052 at N 42 57.815, W 82 24.812 however there is no description given. Whether this is the original or a replacement I haven’t been able to establish. Unfortunately for benchmark hunters the end of Devine Street has for some time been closed off and fenced as it leads into the Imperial Oil refinery so the closest you can get is the gate which is some 60 metres from the IBC marker.

I was able to get a picture but not confirm the markings however, like other IBC markers in the area, they have fairly recently been painted white so are much more easily visible than they once were. The coordinates given are the closest approach which calculates to be 66 metres due east of the mark. The picture is from the same spot with the US side of the St Clair River in the background.

Unique Designation: IBC19990052

Marker Type: Unknown

Condition: Unreachable but Visible
