The City of Oak Point is located in the northeast quadrant of Denton County in north central Texas approximately 40 miles north of Dallas. Oak Point is located just south of U.S. Highway 380 equidistant between Denton and Frisco. While our community, bordered by scenic Lewisville Lake, provides a tranquil setting away from the pressures of a more urban environment, Oak Point is located just 10 miles from the Dallas North Tollway, seven miles from IH-35E, and 25 miles from the Dallas/Forth Worth International Airport. Accessibility, location, and an excellent quality of life makes Oak Point a desirable place to live and do business.


The City of Oak Point was incorporated as a general law municipality in 1976. The City of Oak Point adopted a Council-Manager form of government in 2001.


The North Central Texas Council of Governments estimated the 2010 population of the City of Oak Point to be 2,900.


The current corporate limits of the City of Oak Point contain approximately 5.5 square miles. The extraterritorial jurisdiction (ETJ) of Oak Point includes approximately an additional 3.3 square miles.


The 2010 U.S. Census provides a demographic breakdown of the City. The age distribution of Oak Point’s population includes 28.8% of the population with an age of 19 or less, 29.4% in the 20-44 age group, 32.8% in the 45-64 age group, and 8.9% with an age of 65 and over. Median age in the City is 39.5 years.

Of the population that was 25 years old or greater, the 2000 U.S. Census inicates that 91.5% were high school graduates and 32.5% had obtained bachelor degrees or a higher level of education.


According to the 2010 U.S. Census, there were 1,059 households in the City. 91.4% of the households were owner occupied housing units. Per the Denton County Appraisal District, the average market value of a homestead in Oak Point in 2011 was $222,413.


Oak Point is served by both the Denton Independent School District and the Little Elm Independent School District.
