Long Description:
The Bombo Headland Walking Trail is one of several interconnected walking trails that form the Coastal Walking Track which connects Gerringong in the south with Minnamurra in the north. Its significance is that the Bombo Headland was once an important quarry & the rock quarried here was transported by train to Kiama Harbour. It is 4 kilometres to Minnamurra & the same to Kiama Blowhole & lighthouse.

The brass plaque is affixed to a boulder & the wording is:

Bombo Headland Walking Trail officially opened on January 14th 1989 by The Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing The Hon. Robert Rowland Smith M.P.

The Hon. Robert Rowland Smith M.P. was an Australian politician. He was a National Party member of the New South Wales Legislative Council from 1974 to 1999. He served with the Royal Australian Navy during the Second World War from 1943 to 1947. He joined the Country Party (fore-runner to the National Party) in 1956 at which time he was a wool grower & processor.

He became Leader of the National Party in the Legislative Council in 1978 and Deputy Leader of the Government in 1988, when the Griener lead Coalition won government. He was Minister for Sport, Recreation and Racing until 1991. He remained in the Council until his retirement in 1999. He died last year aged 86. (Credit: Wikipedia)
