Long Description:
Originally the Natchez Trace was used by the Chickasaw, Choctaw, and other tribes as a path to the rich hunting grounds of Tennessee and Kentucky.  In 1801 treaties with Chickasaw and Cherokee Indians provided for the opening of a wagon road from Nashville to Natchez.  The marker is inscribed:
