Long Description:
In late 1924 Richard Pettigrew began searching for a sacred boulder to add to his museum. He had heard about and wanted to acquire a large rock with symbols carved on it to preserve & display in Sioux Falls. He sent his request out to two men to search for him. One boulder was found but was deemed too large to move. A second boulder was found in Evarts, SD and through much hard work was eventually moved & placed outside Pettigrew's home & museum in 1925.

Prayer rocks, such as this one, are carved with images of people, animals, hoof prints hands and feet. Unlike pictographs which are painted, these images are considered petroglyphs because they are carved into the stone.
