Long Description:
This marker reads:
"Designed by renowned architect William Butterfield and constructed by E.B. Hutchinson in association with Pittsfield's esteemed contractor Charles H. Lane, this building initially served as a high school. It also contained primary and secondary grammar school grades. It ceased being a high school in 1892 and grammar school in 1989. Substantially remodeled, it was dedicated as the new Town Hall in 1995,"

Parts of the old building are still part of the new building. The original plaque noting those involved in developing and constructing the building can be found in the building's atrium. In an interesting recycling effort the original chalkboards from the buildings school days were used to make the entryway's floor.
