Long Description:
The theater itself is on the fourth and fifth floors of the Unesco Building in the fashionable Myeongdong district of Seoul. There are 386 seats, including the balcony.
The only performance here is the famed Nanta show. Since the first production in 1997, Nanta has grown to a worldwide phenomenon, with performances in over many, many countries around the world. They estimate that over 7 million people have seen the performance.
Nanta means "beating," and various types of drumming are used throughout the show, forming the common musical thread. Almost anything that can be hit to produce a sound is used, with the kitchen as the setting.
This show is difficult to describe, so unique it is. Four "cooks" prepare a wedding dinner on stage, with appearances from the manager. Woven in are the elements of drumming and percussion, slapsitck comedy, acrobatics and mime. At several points in the show, audience members are brought up on stage for impromptu participation. At other times things come flying out into the seats. The knife work is dazzling. If anyone can sit through this and not laugh, there is just not hope for happiness.
