Long Description:
Gold Rush Magistrate and Commissioner Peter O' Reilly and his wife, Caroline, acquired Point Ellice House in 1867, and many among the social elite of Victoria gathered at the house often for luncheons, dinners and “Afternoon Teas”. Three generations of O’Reillys lived here until the 1970s. The house, grounds and possessions were sold to the Provincial Government in 1975 and Point Ellice House has remained a heritage site to this day.

Overlooking the waters of Victoria's scenic Gorge Waterway, Point Ellice House is, again, where the 'locals' go to enjoy Afternoon Tea! Although I arrived by land, you can still be dropped off at the dock. You can step aboard the mini-passenger Harbour Ferry at the Inner Harbour (or any other stop) and take a leisurely tour on your way to Point Ellice House. You can be picked up later for the return trip (or you can take a taxi back downtown).

Luxuriant heritage gardens surround this rambling Italianate home. The property is like a verdant oasis amid the industries and businesses along the Victoria waterfront. Afternoon Tea is served on the lush lawn overlooking the Harbour on white wicker furniture with comfortable cushions. Glimpses of the Selkirk Waterway between the trees and the scent of flowers add to the setting.

Either before your Afternoon Tea or afterward, take time to tour the historic mid to late 19th-century house. Now a provincial heritage site and run as a museum, the house has been restored and is filled with antique furniture and heirlooms, including the family’s photos and china.
