Marker Text:
Indian Tunnel is named for the mysterious stone circles that lie near the path to this large lava tube. Ancient stone structures are visible in many locations throughout the Monument. Archeologists believe that some of these structures may have had ceremonial significance but their precise function is unknown. The Shoshone made use of lava caves for shelter and as a source of water during their travels through the lava lands.
