The story of the fountain is told on a plaque attached to the base of the plinth supporting the fountain.

THE TALBOT HOUNDS FOUNTAIN

THIS FOUNTAIN WAS COMMISSIONED IN THE
1850’S BY CAPTAIN JOSEPH EDWARDS FOR
THE COURTYARD OF HIS HOME, CASTLE CARR,
NEAR HALIFAX
CASTLE CARR WAS DEMOLISHED IN 1961. THE
FOUNTAIN WAS REDISCOVERED AND RESTORED BY
CROWTHER OF AVON LODGE AND PURCHASED BY
MEPC PLC IN 1991 FOR TREVELYAN SQUARE. THE
SQUARE TAKES ITS NAME FROM THE TREVELYAN
CHAMBER TEMPERANCE HALL WHICH FORMERLY
OCCUPIED THE SITE.
