Long Description:
Dr. W. H. Over, SD's first archeologist sketched maps of the nearby Indian Earth-Hut Villages and also outlined a 51 ft. diameter Omaha Dance Bowl near this spot. Formal ceremonial & ritualistic dances would have taken place here, such as war dances, initiation dances, and worship dances for the sun. Most dances were performed in a large circle by men. Music was provided by flutes, drums, gourd rattles, and bone or wood whistles accompanied by chanting.
