Long Description:
Built in 1931 by Louis J. Maurin, Sr. Mr. Maurin operated the Liberty Theater in Reserve until 1931, and he built the Maurin Theater which served Reserve for talkies until 1954. After a renovation the theater was renamed "Maurin's Show Place of the River Parishes", until May 27, 1979. It closed after 61 years. On July 7, 1982 the theater was reopened as the St. John Theater and is the Cultural and Civic center for the Parish of St. John the Baptist Parish.

The theater now offers a summer production yearly, as well as other civic and cultural events, including the weekly St. John Theater board meetings.
