Long Description:
The Nakdong River has been historically important, presenting a natural barrier in times of war and peace. Near this site and important invasion force from Japan was met in 1592 in the Imjin Battle. Later, the southern portion of the Nakdong became part of the so-called Pusan Perimeter, halting the advance of communist forces from the north during the modern Korean War.
The Bukcheon Citizens park is located in the lower part of the river basin, with walking and biking trails, a bandshell, and recreation fields, as well as the restrooms where these warning sirens are mounted. During the rainy season, the river can rise to dangerous levels for those below, and the sirens, which probably are also connected to a public address system, act as a warning device. A branch police station and community center are located directly across the street to the north.
