Quick Description: Smithy for the Plaza Stables in San Juan Bautista State Historic Park
Location: California, United States
Date Posted: 9/8/2010 3:00:02 PM
Waymark Code: WM9NDE

Long Description:
This blacksmith shop is directly behind the Plaza Stables, which used to be the stagecoach stop for several lines linking Monterey and Salinas with cities to the north such as San Jose and San Francisco, and to the east Hollister and New Idria. Fortunately, the State Park took over the smithy building before it fell into decay, and local volunteers have restored it to use. Living history days are held on the first Saturday of each month, when a blacksmith will light the coal forge and practice his work. It's possible but not likely that the smith will be at work on other days.
