Long Description:
"Our veterans...must not be forgotten. Their service, their sacrifice, their courage must be etched in America's memory...and remembered...as the price they paid to pass on to us...the legacy of freedom and glory that is America."
- Governor Pete Wilson, 1998
The monument was placed to honor all of California's heroes who have served in the military since 1850. The monument was placed at the rear of Capitol Park in a grove of trees. There is a computer kiosk station nearby where one can search a database for loved ones and read about stories of those who have served. An arc of flags representing all of the armed services surround a 30-foot, black granite obelisk depicting the horrors of war.
