Long Description:
Probably the most recognizable symbol of the city of Bangkok. At night with the spotlights shining up to the top of the tallest prang, it is an awesome sight and worthy of it's noterity. The temple dates back to the reign of King Taksin and the founding of Bangkok as the new capital of Siam (Thailand). Much was added by King Rama II and III. It is a very popular visitor spot and when you go be prepared for crowds. You can actually climb up part of the way but the steps are so steep that the higher levels are now off limits to visitors. The most frequent way to get there is by river taxi since Wat Arun lies across the river from Bangkok on the Thornburi side.
