Long Description:
This road was built on an ancient buffalo road. This was later a stagecoach road. There are two Miami Rivers flowing in this area, The Great and the Little Miami Rivers, which is the origin of the turnpike name. This old milepost is most likely from the 1840s, when the turnpike was built. Local pig farmers would drive their animals to market along this route. In the early 20th century, one of the alignments of the Dixie Hwy ran along the road. It is currently know as Cincinnati-Dayton Road, and runs through an older section of my community.
You can reach this off of I-75 at milemarker 21. Go south, and the marker is just north of the post office, on the west side of the road, in a private yard. It can be easily seen from the walkway along the road, just watch the traffic. You can park in the school or post office lots for a short period.
