Long Description:
Depending on the water level this river can be very easy or pretty hairy, but mostly it stays on the easier side. It is used as the primary training ground for the School of Whitewater hosted by local Canoe Club each spring.

There is a $3 parking fee at Byrd's Outdoor Center. They rent canoes, provide shuttles (for a fee) and have some small supplies and snacks.
Parking/put-in/launching information:
Put-in is atthe Forrest Service Campground

Paddling conditions to be expected:
Many small rapids and about six named rapids. At levels below 3' on the gauge the pools are long and slow.

Difficulty of the trip:
Above 4' paddlers should have some experience with self rescue and know how to watch for undercuts and sieves. Above 7' is for skilled, experienced paddlers only.

Length of trip: 9 miles - time varies by water level.


Permits required:
none. However, on all Arkansas waterways is it illegal to bring any glass beverage containers, all beverage containers or food muct be in a latched closed cooler (or the one you are drinking must have a floating coozie), and all trash must be secured in a study bag attached to the craft. Also all persons must have a PFD in the boat, and minor must be wearing theirs.

Other information:
Best "play" rapid is "Whoop and Holler" one mile above take out.
