In 1871 Geneseo welcomed it's first students to Wadsworth Normal & Training School, offering instruction to would-be teachers. Geneseo became the original campus of State University of New York (SUNY) in 1948. It is one of 13 four-year colleges in the SUNY system, offering 54 degree programs. It is the most selective of the SUNY colleges and is ranked among the two or three most selective undergraduate colleges in the nation. U.S. News and World Report has rated Geneseo second among public universities in the north.
