Long Description:
William McKinley (1887-1901) was the first President to visit South Dakota. He made a one-day visit on October 14, 1899, making thirteen stops during the day as part of a mid-western tour. He arrived by train to much fanfare and was then taken by horse-drawn carriage to a reviewing stand at 9th St. and Main Ave. where he welcomed home some 90 soldiers of the Sioux Falls Company D, First SD Infantry Regiment.
