Long Description:
This is a one-story building with a flat roof and Art Deco architecture. It was constructed in 1935 with federal Treasury Dept. funding. Originally housing the post office, the building later became a federal office building. In 2003 it was purchased by the Cherokee Nation, and appears to be vacant at the present time.

The building has a white stucco covering, with tile coping and a decorative band approximately two feet below the roofline, painted in a tan color. The single windows are two-over-two double hung, with stone sills. Above each window is a small inset panel painted in the contrasting color. A 3-foot high, tan colored strip encircles the building at ground level. The main entrance facing Missouri Street has double metal doors with a fixed transom, with a seven-step staircase with block sidewalls. The surround is stone, painted tan. Two circular metal seals flank the entry, and the words "Federal Building / Claremore, Oklahoma" are spelled in metal letters above the entrance. A 1960's Fallout Shelter sign on the north wall shows it had a capacity for 30 occupants in the basement.

An older photo of the building when it was a post office can be seen on the Living New Deal website showing an arched entrance surround and different window panes and doors. (visit link)

Visit Instructions:
To post a log to an existing U.S. Post Office waymark, you will need to post a picture of the front of the building, with the name of the post office in the background if that is possible. Including your gps device in the picture is not neccesary, but wouldn't be cause for disapproval, as long as all other details of your log are acceptable. If your Post Office has any unusual or unique features that you feel others would enjoy viewing, additional pictures are always welcome.
