Long Description:
Irene Beatrice Hawkins was born in Yorkshire in 1906. She was taught art at the York School of Art and the Royal College of Art. She became an illustrator, and illustrated Walter De la Mare’s Collection of Children’s Stories.
The painting was made around 1940 as part of the Recording Britain project. The watercolour painting is in the collection of the V&A Museum.
