Long Description:
Paul Cranfield Smyth was born in April 1883, the son of a school headmaster. He followed a career in teaching, with a passion for art. He was influential in the Hampstead Sketch Club and the Finchley Art Society, being founder and president of the society. He held several one man exhibitions and had a picture hung at the Royal Academy. For more biographical details see (visit link)

The painting of the Black Lion Inn is a watercolour painted in 1947. The building in the left foreground has long since been demolished, but the other buildings are still there today.
