Die Stadtmauer, von der noch heute Übereste hier Vor Ort zu finden sind, diente nicht mehr zur Verteidigung der Stadt sondern zur Sicherung der Einahme der 1704 von Leopold eingeführten Akzise, die an fünf Stadttoren kassiert wurde.Sie diente damit als Vorbild der später errichteten Berliner Akzisemauer
