Long Description:
The scene is readily identified by the foreground trees. Despite the passage of time the stand of three trees to the left and the tree to the right have maintained their relative shape. The alignment of the trees and the Langdale Pikes in the background also matches.

William Heaton Cooper was the son of the Lakes artist Alfred Heaton Cooper. He was a member of the Royal Institute of British Watercolourists and a past president of the Lake Artists Society. As well as being a fine artist he was also a pioneer climber, being life president of the Fell & Rock Climbing Club. For a complete biography see
