Long Description:
Per the community website (http://www.mountaincitytx.com/), the town was developed before the Civil War as the supply center for an extensive farming and ranching community. Its location was set due to be a desirable stopping point for stagecoaches.

In recent years, the town has benefited from its central location within Hays County to have the consolidated high school nearby.
