Long Description:
Prior to 1948 there were 7 municipal & shire councils in what today is the City of Shoalhaven. Berry Municipal Council was one & Rex Williams was its last mayor. On 1 July 1948 these councils & shires amalgamated to form the Shire of Shoalhaven. The City of Shoalhaven was proclaimed on 1 August, 1979.
Mr. Williams was obviously held in high regard as he didn't hold office in the Shire of Shoalhaven yet was given the honour of opening a bridge that was designed & constructed by the Shire's engineering department.
