Long Description:
The trailhead for the Eagle Mountain hiking trail is at the parking lot, and it will be necessary to self-register for a day permit as this trail enters the Boundary Waters Canoe Area Wilderness. This 7 mile round trip trail leads to the top of Eagle Mountain, the highest point in Minnesota. The trail is gentle up and down on duff, roots, and rocks until the last half mile when the hiker will need to climb a much more steep grade with a lot of rock. At the peak one will find several overlooks with views of several picturesque lakes; a few steps off on a side path leads to a large historical plaque and a survey marker. Be sure to wear sturdy hiking boots and use caution if the rocks and roots are damp as they may be slippery.

The parking lot and trailhead is reached by taking the Grade (Forest Rd. 153) from Grand Marais and following the gravel road north and west to the sign.
