Long Description:
This marker required both a shovel and a metal detector before it was able to see the light of day. While out after other things, I happened to spot the witness post in the ditch. Naturally, the marker couldn't be found, so it was back home to get power tools. It still took a bit of time and work to unearth it.
This survey marker, with attendant witness post, is to be found on the hill east from Trail, about 1 km. or less west of Montrose. The shoulder here is wide enough to pull off, but a wiser idea may be to park at the pullout on the opposite side and a couple of hundred feet down the hill.
Given that this is a survey marker, there's no data sheet. It's marked:

The date is more than a bit hard to read. Given that the witness sign reads "B.C.L.S. Survey Post 1' from this Ref. Post", it has to be pre 1978 (the last digit is an "8"). The marker is a standard BCLS Brass tablet.
