Long Description:
Black Walnuts are found through the eastern United States, as well as from the Ozarks north. Over 60% of the wild harvest comes from the state of Missouri. It is therefore no wonder that it is commonly used as a memorial tree throughout the Show Me State.

This tree, just over 100 years old, is found next to the site where Drury University's first building stood and in front of the current day administration building. The inscription on the marker is as follows:

"Black Walnut Tree

Planted in 1910 by the
Alumni Association

to honor

The College's First President"

Drury University was founded as Springfield College in 1873. It was originally associated with the United Churches of Christ and the Disciples of Christ. Today, it is a private liberal arts institution with an average enrollment between 3,000-5,000.
Location of the tree: on university campus

Type of tree: black walnut
