Long Description:
The Palm Soda Fountain & Ice Cream Parlour was apparently much more than that, serving up fresh fruits and vegetables, cold meats, cooked ham and more if I read the ad correctly. In any event, they did business from the KWC Block, named after the original owners, J.A. Kirkpatick, C.J. Wilson and A.H. Clements. The J.A. Kirkpatick is the selfsame J.A. Kirkpatick in the J.A. Kirkpatrick & Company Ltd. - Nelson, BC - 1903 ad below. Apparently, two years after the completion of his building, he still did business, at least in part, from another location, The Aberdeen Block. The KWC Block was built during the years 1900 and 1901 on the corner of Ward and Baker Streets.

From a Walking Tour of Nelson’s Heritage Buildings, number 19.

Merchants, Kirkpatrick, Wilson and Clements, paid $10,500 for the lots. Designed [by local architects, the Alexanders Ewart & Carrie] and built in one year, it long remained the largest mercantile block in Nelson. At street level, one of the City’s finest grocery stores offered delicacies from afar. The turret, once typical of many corner buildings, is the only one remaining on Baker Street. Arches over the windows on the third storey, decorative brick work and pilasters tie the structural elements together.
There are no longer any food stores of any kind in the building. Instead it has been given over primarily to clothing stores and offices of various sorts.
