Long Description:
THE LOCATION: A large sporting facility was named after a long time, much loved Baulkham Hills Councillor and Headmaster of Castle Hill Primary School, Les Shore, who lived for many years in his family home at Glenorie. The Reserve is situated on Old Noerthern Road, Glenorie, north of Sydney in NSW. A life-long cricket lover and member of Glenorie Cricket Club since 1947, Les Shore was instrumental in organising celebrations to open the new cricket pavilion at Les Shore Oval in Glenorie. He was a life member of the Glenorie Cricket Club and life member of the Hornsby-Kuringai Cricket Association where he had an association with Neil Marx, author and cricketer who opened the new oval in 1963.

THE PERSON: Neil Marks opened the Cricket Oval on 7th September 1963.
A renowned story-teller and raconteur, Neil Marks is a former NSW Sheffield Shield cricketer who scored a century in each of his first two matches. Both his father Alec, a close friend of Don Bradman, and brother Lynn, also represented NSW at cricket.
Neil was a former first-class cricketer, mixing with the elite of Australian sport over the last five decades, but his career in the big-time was unfortunately cut short by illness, however he later became team manager and a NSW selector. A prolific writer, Neil Marks has had five books published to date.

THE PLAQUE: A brass plaque set in a rock under a Gum Tree beside the cricket pavilion has the following inscription;
The Baulkham Hills Shire Council insignia above the words,
"This Oval Was Officially Opened By
Neil Marks
As The Home Of
The Glenorie Cricket Club
On the 7th September 1963"
