Long Description:
Flagstaff Hill is a nationally designated heritage site. The plaque on site reads: "On this hill were placed for ceremonial use guns salvaged from the "Brampton" wrecked in the bay in 1823".

Interestingly, although there is no indication of it on site, this location is also of Maori significance. The National Trust register states: "Maiki o Manukaihuia, also known as Flagstaff Hill, is a headland in Paihia which was used as the maiki for the larger Manukaihuia Pa."

The national trust registration covers the 0.3793ha block of land known as Sec 5 Blk IV Kawakawa SD (Recreation Reserve Paihia Domain NZ Gazette 1980 p.3327) North Auckland Land District, excluding the eating area and toilets"
