Long Description:
The former Dunedine Masonic Lodge was built in 1864 to serve as the Synagogue for the growing Jewish population in Dunedin. The steep access to the building along with the growing congregation the Jewish community purchased a new lot nearby in 1875 and sold the building to the Dunedin Masonic Hall Company in 1881. The Freemason made a few different additions to the building over the years. It served many Masonic organizations for 111 years and then was sold to private ownership. It was converted residential apartments and an art gallery. On the exterior there are no Masonic symbols however art gallery website indicates symbols from both its previous roles as a Synagogue and a Masonic Lodge are present on the interior.
