Long Description:
Again the photos were taken from the southern edge of "Smelter Hill", so named because that is the location of the Teck Cominco Smelter, the lifeblood of the city since the smelter was built in 1896. The view is southeasterly across the city.

The view in the photo of 1896 can no longer be reproduced from the same vantage point, because, for some totally inexplicable reason, there are now trees blocking the view. As a result, the newer one here was taken from a few hundred feet further west.
